Boiler Insulation. Boiler Insulation is higher temperature thermal insulation made from ceramic or mineral wool insulation fibers. These materials come in both rolls or boards and are pinned or strapped onto the boiler casing or exhaust breeching.
Rubatex pipe insulation would not be a good pipe insulation for steam boiler piping insulation. There is a temperature limit (steam pipe temperatures exceed 200 degrees Fahrenheit). However, Rubatex would be suitable for hot water boiler pipe insulation.
Next, compare this to the color brochure for the steam boiler and choose the boiler that meets the required load. An important note on boiler sizing - all the supply piping in the basement should be insulated with a minimum of 1" of pipe insulation. A better choice would be 1-1/2" or 2" of pipe insulation.
Insulation is available in 3 foot lengths for pipe sizes from 1/2" to 6". This pipe insulation is made of 1" thick compressed commercial grade, heavy density resin bonded fiberglass. It is important to properly measure for new pipe insulation.
Fiberglass Pipe Insulation covering is intended as a thermal insulation for both hot and cold service piping from -20°F to 1000°F. The pipe insulation is molded from heavy density resin bonded glass fibers that come in 3 foot long hinged sections.
This classification applies to the application of insulating material, including but not limited to fiberglass, polystyrene, aluminum and calcium silicate, onto steam pipes, boilers, vessels, duct work and similar apparatus to conserve heat and cold and to prevent condensation.
